Three Georgia highway workers were killed in a construction zone crash in Iredell County, North Carolina. The crash happened after the driver of a 2019 Freightliner box truck struck an unoccupied work vehicle. Authorities say the impact propelled the unoccupied vehicle into a group of men working at the construction site. The fatal accident occurred on Interstate-40, just before 3:30 am on Thursday, February 27, 2020.

Investigator victims identified the victims as 22-year-old Noah Logan Hamilton of Bonaire, Georgia, 21-year-old Austin Melton and 20-year-old Dustin Gelinas both of Jesup, Georgia. The three men were repairing a guardrail in a construction zone at the time of the crash, according to CBS17.com,

Cause of The Crash

Authorities say the driver of a 2019 freightliner box truck, Logan Lee Casey, failed to reduce speed before plowing into the construction site. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. A state law enforcement officials said “it appears there were warning lights and signage in place.”

Casey walked away with minor injuries. Authorities charged Logan Lee Casey with three counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to authorities.

All three victims killed in the crash were working as part of a contracted crew for DBI Services, a Pennsylvania-based infrastructure operations and maintenance company. The company has not yet released a public statement regarding the tragic and untimely deaths of Noah Logan Hamilton, Austin Melton and Dustin Gelinas.
